About:

My Research

My research broadly focuses on the health and healthcare access of multiply marginalized populations, particularly across race, sexual orientation, and gender. I center mixed methods, participatory, intersectional, and anti-oppressive approaches in my work.

My dissertation, "Structural Determinants of Health across Race, Sexual Orientation, and Gender: A Mixed Methods Application of Public Health Critical Race Praxis" examined how structural-level racism and LGBTQ+ discrimination impacts the health of LGBTQ+ people of color. Across three aims, I investigated how (1) health researchers apply anti-racist theory in their work, (2) state-level structural racism and LGBTQ+ discrimination impact well-being, insurance status, and cost barriers for U.S. adults across race, sexual orientation, and gender, and (3) LGBTQ+ communities of color use zines to convey health information, lived experiences with structural oppression, and community strengths.

While at UW, I was an AHRQ NRSA T-32 Predoctoral Trainee, a UW Center for Health Innovation and Policy Health Policy Writing Fellow, a Research Consultant at Health in Partnership (prev. Human Impact Partners), and a Research Scientist at the UW Center for Anti-Racism and Community Health. I've supported research and evaluation projects on topics such as LGBTQ+ veteran mental health, worker health during COVID-19, and community health workers and promotores.

I have experience supervising research teams, mentoring undergraduate and graduate students, and applying anti-racist and community-based approaches to research, evaluation, and teaching. I conduct research with methods such as secondary analysis of big datasets, surveys, in-depth interviews, focus groups, systematic reviews, and content analysis. I am well-versed in theories and approaches such as Public Health Critical Race Praxis, Intersectionality, and Community Based Participatory Research.
